the classroom
Our kindergarten class is filled with 20 kindergartners between the ages of 5 and 6. 10 students are boys, and 10 students are girls. 19 out of 20 students identify as Black or African American, while 1 student is of Latino/Hispanic descent. 2 students receive special education services, including speech therapy, occupational therapy, and academic support. As with Plummer’s student population at-large, students in my classroom come from
low-income families. All of my students live with at least one biological parent, and many have siblings who also attend Plummer.

At the start of the school year, the classroom walls are mostly blank. Students are encouraged to fill the walls with artwork, writing, math work, and more. As more student work is displayed, the classroom becomes the students'.
